Admin setup and channel operating guide

Install Arialine, choose channel defaults, and understand plan and permission boundaries.

A Slack workspace admin installs Arialine, then a member invites it to each channel where it should work. Arialine does not turn ordinary channel conversation into diagrams by itself: address Aria, Arialine or @Arialine, use a shortcut, or enable one of the file/pasted-Mermaid automations. Open App Home, choose a channel under Channel settings, and check its switches; /arialine settings shows the same values in that channel. Channel behavior controls are not admin-only: any member of a channel can change that channel's settings, as with Slack's own everyday channel settings. Workspace billing, language and privacy controls are limited to owners/admins.

Suggested starting configuration: leave proposal mode on for addressed edits, keep automatic ledger posting on, keep pasted Mermaid auto-render off to avoid surprise boards, and choose whether .mmd and .md files should be automatic in each channel. Proposal mode presents Apply/Dismiss review controls but is not a strict owner-only approval gate across all mutation paths. Review the Arialine slash command reference article for every setting and default.

Arialine's Free/Team subscription and Slack's Free/paid subscription are different. On Slack Free, standalone Canvases are unavailable and each channel has one Canvas tab. Arialine leaves that channel tab alone and maintains a board-thread ledger instead. Existing channel Canvases are preserved. Markdown-to-Canvas and Place on canvas can also be limited by Slack plan or Canvas permissions.

To audit a board, open its root message, History and source/decision links; PDF reports can include historical snapshots. Turning ledger auto-posting off only stops future mirror updates. It does not remove versions, old Canvas content or old thread messages. For billing, use /arialine upgrade; the workspace owner/admin manages access, while the payer manages payment details through Paddle. For troubleshooting, confirm the app is in the channel and the channel's settings before contacting support.

Privacy: a workspace owner or admin can decide that Mermaid pasted with /arialine (inline, or with Paste Mermaid code in the New diagram form) is never stored, with /arialine privacy save off or the switch under Workspace privacy in App Home. Valid Mermaid pasted with /arialine is then rendered once and posted without creating a board, so it can't be edited or versioned later; everything else (descriptions in the New diagram form, mentions, files, AI-created diagrams and existing boards) is still saved. Each channel can also choose which diagram files are posted (/arialine files both|png|html). Arialine answers in the language people write in, so no language setting is needed.
